Our prestigious awards serve to guide the aspirations of filmmakers towards the pinnacle of their craft, by shining a spotlight on the brightest stars in the industry. The following awards will be presented at the 2024 North Carolina Film Festival.
About Our Awards
Best Feature
Presented to a feature film with a strong plot and character development, absorbing dialogue, strong visual appeal, and overall outstanding achievement. Originality, direction, writing, cinematography, performances, production value, pacing, structure, and sound will be considered.
Best Short
A short film needs a captivating story, well-rounded characters, and aesthetic values within a 40 minute run time. Originality, direction, writing, cinematography, performances, production value, pacing, structure, and sound will be considered.
Best Feature Documentary
Selection for this award is based on the criteria that a good documentary not only gives the viewer an in-depth view of the subject matter, but presents the material in a compelling and interesting way.
Best Short Documentary
Selection for this award is based on the criteria that a good documentary not only gives the viewer an in-depth view of the subject matter, but presents the material in a compelling and interesting way.
Best Lead Performance
Presented to an actor who draws us in with honest reactions and shows us the essence of what acting is all about; we want to see the character’s personality and motives. An actor accomplishes this through body language, facial expressions, interactions, and dialogue delivery.
Best Supporting Performance
Presented to an actor who delivers an outstanding performance in a supporting role. An actor accomplishes this through body language, facial expressions, interactions, and dialogue delivery.
Best Cinematography
Cinematography is an art that sets the look, tone, and mood of a film. Visual elements are used to enhance the storytelling, create ambiance, and highlight emotions; including: lighting, framing, composition, camera motion, camera angles, film selection, lens choices, depth of field, zoom, focus, color, exposure, and filtration.
